Updated: Wii,360 Pricing/Services

UMX WISHES YOU BEST OF LUCK IN THE NEW YEAR!

Well I'm now back from holidays and I hope everyone had as good of a holiday season as I did. There are a few things that are new in the world of modding. The new Lite-On drive found in the latest Xbox 360's can now be flashed so there is no need to replace the dvdrom and the price for modding them has dropped to the same price as all other models ($40). I have tested the modding method and it is 100% working. Also there is a new model of Wii that now has epoxy all over the board. I have ordered a hot air rework station to assist me in doing these while I was gone and it should arrive by friday if all goes well. See you all in the New Year!

Stop The Canadian DMCA!!!

My fellow Canadians, a matter of the greatest importance has come to our attention. TOMORROW new laws will be passed by the Canadian government which will effectively OUTLAW the use of modchips and flash carts, among other things.

This new copyright reform in the form of the Canadian DMCA has been influenced by US lobby groups rather than the voice of the Canadian people. What we're faced with is legislation that is potentially even more extreme than that of the US DMCA which is what allows the RIAA, MPAA, etc to function in the United States as they do.

This would be a blow not only to Canada, civil rights, and copyright law, but also YOUR rights, this fine community, and all of the businesses that make their living by selling said products. Our digital way of life would effectively come to a stop. They're even going as far as proposing a minimum $500 fine per incident. While copyright reform is an important issue, this is not the way to go about it.

In response to this backdoor policy-making a growing movement and coalition has been actively pursuing making the Canadian voice heard in this legislative process. All is NOT lost; they previously attempted to impose similar legislation back in December but this very movement's response stopped them in their tracks. We MUST speak up! We MUST make ourselves heard before it's too late!

As such the Canadian Coalition for Electronic Rights has created a simple pre-written letter sending service that will allow for us to be heard. I implore any and all Canadians to use this service to send a letter to Prime Minister, Stephen Harper; Jim Prentice, Minister of Industry; and Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage TODAY before we have no tomorrow.

The Wii Homebrew Channel has been released!
The Homebrew Channel is a channel for launching Wii homebrew applications (homemade software such as emulators) without the need to run the Twilight Hack first. It will list apps stored and organized on an SD card in a nice little GUI, which you can very easily customize with descriptions and shiny little .png icons all by yourself if you want. You can also launch homebrew apps via TCP (with a correctly configured PC) or USB Gecko. Both of those built in options make it extremely convenient for testing out new code, as well as a general purpose homebrew launcher.

Notes:
I would personally recommend installing this asap as there is a chance that Nintendo patches the vulnerability making it impossible to install later on. I have tested it and it works/looks great. I even downloaded an emulator or two to test with. The current emulators are in early stages of development although the work surprisingly well for how long they have been able to even make the applications. Installation is simple. Download the Homebrew Channel ISO file then Extract/Burn and run it in your chipped Wii. Once it is installed you will have a Homebrew Channel on the Wii's main screen. Simply read the readme files or check out the wiinews forums for information. Happy Gaming!

Un-Moddable Wii's In The Wild

Wii's sold in North America the last week with LU567xxxx serial numbers will not work with any of the D2C chips, including the original versions and the new 9wire clones now showing up. The console internals look the same (same drive board, same D2C markings on the chip) but, after installing a mod, backups will still not boot. It is possible that Nintendo has made some major changes to these new systems so, if you can get older D2C models, it's best to get them now!

For those worried that their console will not work. I do not charge anything unless the console is modified successfully. If anything is damaged during the install I will replace the drive with a working one.

"Hi today i recieved a console back from microsoft repair center in Australia, it had a BENQ drive which didnt seem to flash via dosflash. Apon inspection i believe i have found a new drive revision!"

Model no. DG-16D2S
HW Version. A0A1
FW Version. 74850

They are currently trying to find data sheets on this controller to further analyze security. It appears to be a masked-rom (read-only) setup, similar to that of the xbox original, version 1.6. If you have or can find any spec's on the MediaTek controller above, please post in the forum thread!

First ever software homebrew loader for Wii released
A group of hackers who go by the name of Team Twiizers have released a demo of the world's first homebrew loader running on the Wii by utilizing a buffer overflow in Zelda: Twilight Princess. Looks like the Wii is fully hacked via software means, no need to run homebrew in GC mode as mod chips require!

Homebrew Pong running in Wii mode
Just a few days ago, we caught whiff of the Zelda: Twilight Princess exploit for Wii which opened up the possibility to boot homebrew in Wii mode through a buffer overflow method. Now homebrew developer Auby has extended this hack to load an ELF version of his PONG game which runs in Wii mode.

More Xbox Live ban waves this weekend
>> From users on the Xbox-Scene forums, and other networking sites...

It appears that MS has started banning people over the past week (happy holidays xbox360 users!). As always, we would like to gather data and input from the community as to what may be causing these bans. It appears to effect the new ixtreme 1.4 aswell as the older ixtreme and non ixtreme versions, and all of the drives have been effected. We even have a few reports of a few trusted people in the community who were banned and had not played anything but a retail copy. As of this moment we do not know if a new security was implemented, or if they are further scrutinizing the already given criteria (SS, DMI, PFI alterations, timings, etc). So if you have gotten banned over the past week, we would ask you to share the following with us in the forum thread below, otherwise, please do not post in the thread! Bans only!

A) Firmware Version, drive type (hitachi, samsung, benq) and when you upgraded/installed that version. Also include if you spoofed the version.
B) Previous firmware version's, or if the console is freshly modded or refurbished (please include manufactor date)
C) Backups played over the past month(and whether they were checked with kreon checker, if not, please check the SS and report the results)
D) Originals played over the past month
E) Method of backing up games (as always, piracy is not tolerable on xbox-scene, so if you have downloaded these games, please do not bother posting.

Thanks to all who have contributed in the past, and those for the future :)

iXtreme firmware 1.4 ALL VERSIONS
A new release of iXtreme firmware, for all versions of all drives

New Features
(v1.4) Disc jitter fix

Note: Everyone is wondering why people were getting banned a few weeks back. Here is a short summary of our speculation:
There are specific timers within the challenge/response protocol that may be checked by MS to determine as criteria for banning. We believe they are measuring one or more to find discrepancies. While a lot of this is speculation, and a lot of data is inaccurate as far as replication due to different mechanics, there may be specific timers that can be easily read. One that we are focusing on has to do with the degree's of disc rotation, which will generate a sum (0,90,180,270) and embed that data within the Security Sector file. Now, we recently have noticed a change within games in regards to that Challenge/Response timer.

We recently found out that new games ripped with kreon drives will give back a degree, that in combination with ixtreme jitter, will produce a 360 degree value. This would be a unacceptable range (should only be 0-359). This is a detectable and possibly a criteria for the recent ban waves. Also, this would explain why some users got banned playing the same games that others played, and did not get banned. The point of jitter is to randomly give back proper values. With that in mind, a random jitter value from a kreon drive, with a random jitter from a ixtreme drive will rarely give back a 360 degree value. This new ixtreme will wrap that value to ensure that no 360 degree value can be submitted.

Now, a note of recommendation, due to statistical findings. We have spent days ripping *thousands* of security sector's with various drive/software combinations and have come to the following:
The most accurate/valid SS replication is done with a samsung drive using Schtrom 360 xtract or XBC. So far, we have seen only a very small percentage of 6701 rips in comparison to kreon. Now, given that, i think it is important to inform that this value was previously normal with older games. It may or may not be normal with *every* new game, but with some so far. So, if you are planning on backing up your purchased games, please try to use samsung with schtrom 360 xtract or XBC for the most reliable replica possible!!!! This *could* mean the difference from being banned on xbox live, or not.

Now, as always, remember that you are modifying your console *at your own risk*. If you make a backup of your game and play it on xbox live, you will always run a risk of getting your console banned.

Microsoft Starts New Ban Wave on LIVE Against Modified Firmwares
>> We don't have a lot of information yet (it just started, but we try to warn you all as early as possible), but it looks like Microsoft started a new wave of bans against modified DVD firmwares or DVD+/-R DL discs. Several users on our forums and on IRC report their Xbox 360 has been banned from LIVE today. We get reports of Toshiba-Samsung and Hitachi-LG drives banned with both Xtreme and even the newer iXtreme firmwares. However we also see many reports of people who are currently on LIVE and have no been banned (yet). No reports of banned BenQ drives yet (but few of these drives have been flashed yet). We don't know yet if Microsoft is detecting the modified firmware or the discs (or maybe only with a specific game?). If you have the 'Z Code' 8015-190D it means you are banned. As always Microsoft bans the console serial from LIVE, not your LIVE account. If your console is banned or if you have been playing on LIVE today with modified FW without getting banned, report you findings in this thread (include at least your live status, full drive model (swapped drive?, spoofing?) and firmware version used).

So until we have more info we HIGHLY suggest you don't log in to Xbox LIVE and don't play any games from DVD+/-R DL (even offline, incase MS flags something) if you have a flashed DVD drive.

*UPDATE*
It appears that modified fw is NOT being detected, and is instead once again due to 'bad' discs. Keep in mind that the only full proof way to make a 1:1 backup is to do it yourself. iXtreme is as fullproof as it can be, in that it validates everything it possibly can from a firmware point of view, but a game can have slight data change somewhere, most commonly in DMI. Or it can be due to early copies being watermarked so to speak. This is why you run the risk of being banned on xbox live if you pirate games. Always remember that you run a risk doing such actions. In regards to game data being properly validated, xdvdmulleter is a tool that has a constantly maintained database to validate backups against retail copies to ensure full stealth. If you have a samsung SH-D16x and would like to contribute to the project to prevent future Live bans, please join #stealth360 on Efnet, IRC.
